Course Title: 7th Grade English
This course develops skills in literature, composition, grammar, punctuation, spelling, vocabulary, correct word usage, and oral language skills.
Homework Policy:
Daily homework will not be posted on this web-site. Students are given adequate time in class each day to record assignments in their planners and need to develop that habit. Posting assignments in advance here is counterproductive
Homework is assigned nearly every night, and should take approximately 20 minutes.
Homework is rarely assigned on weekends or holidays, but that may happen occasionally.
Not all homework will be assigned a percentage grade. Completing homework on time forms a major portion of the student’s effort and work habits grades.
Regular homework is due on the assigned date, and will not be accepted late. Graded assignments that are turned in late WILL be accepted, but the grade will be lowered 10%.
Homework is due at the beginning of class.
If a student is absent, he/she should make every effort to complete the homework anyway. As of the first week of school, all students will have the phone numbers of at least two other students in this class. Students should call those partners first. If a student is unable to contact a homework partner, he/she should contact the teacher after returning to class and arrange a reasonable schedule for getting caught up.
Grading Policy:
All grading is done on a percentage basis.
Most assignments are worth 100 points. A few long-term assignments will count more. Students will be notified ahead of time if that is the case.
In any given trimester, students accumulate 25-30 individual grades. No one assignment will make or break a student’s grade.
The cut off for letter grades is the same for all classes at the Middle School, see planner.
Extra credit opportunities are offered occasionally to all students. Extra credit will never be assigned on an individual basis specifically to make up for previous poor performance. Students who earn high grades in this class are expected to do consistently good work, not to complete extra assignments instead.
General Area of Study for September:
We will be completing assignments based on the required summer reading books. Students will also be reading a self-chosen novel, developing organizational strategies for materials, and outlining strategies of compositions. Spelling and vocabulary assignments will begin the first week.
Extra credit opportunities for the month of September will be posted to this site by Sept. 15th.
Classroom Expectations:
Students are expected to be courteous and studious in the classroom at all times.
