Budget & Finance

The Manhattan Beach Unified School District Board of Trustees seeks to have a budget for our schools that is as healthy as possible.  That is quite a challenging task in a time where the state of California is going through an unprecedented financial crisis.

Over the past few years, the Board has made painful cuts.  Compared to the year 2002, we have 40%fewer administrators, 25% fewer classified staff, and about the same number of teachers.  Our priority has clearly been the classroom.  These reductions have helped to keep our budget as positive as possible.

The Manhattan Beach Education Foundation has been another primary reason for our healthy budget.  MBEF now raises over $4 million a year for Manhattan Beach Schools, reducing class size and keeping key programs such as music, reading, science and technology.

This year, even though more cuts from the state are expected, MBUSD has projected that our budget will be positive.  For very readable details, please see our detailed description of the 2011-12 first interim budget.
