District Receives Notice from Public Employment Relations Board

The Manhattan Beach Unified School District recently received notice from the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) in response to complaints brought against it by the Manhattan Beach Unified Teachers Association (MBUTA) regarding the timely disclosure of requested information.  MBUTA has requested numerous items of information over the last several years, including separate requests dated August and September, 2012; March, April, June and October, 2013; and February, March and May, 2014.

The PERB Administrative Law Judge concluded the District took too long in responding to seven specific items of information requested on March 12, 2013.

Superintendent Mike Matthews stated, “The bottom line is that we were late in providing some of the information requested on March 12, 2013, and PERB has advised us to be timely in responding to future requests. We believe that we have provided all of the information that has been requested to this point.  We will bring on additional help as necessary to respond to future requests in a timely manner.”

In an effort to provide transparency to the public regarding requests for information, the District has created a website on which such requests for information and MBUSD’s responses are visible at all times.  The website can be viewed by clicking here.
