Robinson Elementary Named as a National Blue Ribbon School!

I received an email this morning from the Federal Department of Education informing me that Robinson Elementary is a Blue Ribbon School.  Congratulations to the Robinson staff, students, parens, community and to all in MBUSD for this honor.

Here is the email that I received:

September 24, 2013

 Dear Superintendent Matthews

Congratulations! U. S. Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan has recognized Opal Robinson Elementary School, in Manhattan Beach Unified as a National Blue Ribbon School for 2013.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program award recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools where students either achieve very high learning standards or are making notable improvements toward those standards. Since 1982, the U. S. Department of Education has sought out and celebrated great American schools. The National Blue Ribbon School award affirms the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in outstanding schools.

Secretary Duncan has invited two representatives (school principal and teacher or staff member) of Opal Robinson Elementary School to Washington, DC for the November 18 and 19 recognition ceremony, where they will be presented with the National Blue Ribbon Schools plaque and flag as symbols of their recognized status.

The list of all 2013 National Blue Ribbon Schools is also available on the U. S. Department of Education’s website at http://www.ed.gov/nationalblueribbonschools

Thank you for your commitment to excellence in education for all children.

Respectfully Yours,

Aba S. Kumi

Director,  National Blue Ribbon Schools Program
