Notice from Superintendent regarding arrest of man following MBUSD students

On Tuesday afternoon, two of our secondary students, in separate incidents, were walking home from school in the afternoon and saw that a man in a car was following them.  Each student reported the incident to MBPD.  The suspect was arrested later that afternoon on charges of child annoyance and stalking.  The suspect has been released on bail and is awaiting trial.  The police have released a photo of the suspect and the suspect's vehicle and invite any further information.

I applaud the students in this matter for reporting the incident immediately and for being aware of their surroundings.  It is always a good time to talk with our children about safety, about watchfulness, and about reporting anything out of the ordinary.

I have attached a press release from MBPD, along with the two photos.

Thank you,

Mike Matthews
MBUSD Superintendent of Schools
