Sharon Witzansky- Grand View Elementary Teacher of the Year

Sharon is a super star when it comes to education. She has taught kindergarten, first, third, and fifth grade, in addition to working as an ESS (elementary support specialist) for one year. She is a life-long learner whose perfectionist personal style keeps her reviewing, modifying, and improving every lesson that she teaches. She is known for teaching our highest level math class and is constantly challenging our most gifted students. She excels in classroom management techniques and instills interpersonal skills, teaching students to become independent and responsible citizens. She promotes self-directed, reflective learning and is able to reach our special needs, as well as our gifted students.

Sharon is currently the district fifth grade lead teacher, our school fifth grade lead teacher, our Student Study Team chairperson, our administrative designee, a member of the District Technology Committee, the District Teaching and Learning Committee, a leader in using our PowerSchool student database and a driving force in piloting Café Counts to access online lunch ordering. She works closely with her team and is known to be a team player, one whom everyone looks to when seeking advice. She has been the liaison between our environmental Grades of Green committee and the staff. Sharon takes the environmental issues and helps to make them “teacher and classroom friendly.” Needless to say, Sharon is an integral part of our district and school’s success.

Sharon incorporates 21st century skills into her classroom including collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking. She integrates technology frequently to assist in managing and monitoring student learning. Her students frequently use their iPads which definitely facilitated this year’s online state testing.

Principal Rhonda Steinberg values and depends on Sharon’s expertise and often uses her as a sounding board due to her intelligence, experience, and common sense approach to teaching. Sharon talks the talk and walks the walk. The entire school community is proud to have Sharon represent Grand View as our 2014 “Teacher of the Year.”
