MBUSD Music Education

Elementary Opportunities:

Grades 1-2: All students in grades 1-2 receive one semester of general music instruction weekly.

Grade 3: All students participate in an exploratory wheel in three trimesters: Violin, Recorder, and Choir.

Grades 4-5: Fourth and fifth-grade music is a two-year program. Students remain in their chosen class (Strings/Band/Choir) for two years, giving them the opportunity to build their skills and achieve mastery.

Violin, Band, Choir: Honor Groups (4th and 5th Grade by audition):

All three honor groups are performance-based ensembles that provide students with the opportunity to take the skills they have been practicing on their instruments, both individually and in class, and apply them to a group setting.  The ensembles represent the most advanced music students from each elementary school in the district.
